Perhaps not many people will notice that but someone pointed it out to me and it was a dead giveaway. Just fyi, the two seniors of Han Li who rescued him were spotted wearing a black armband. That apparently is a symbol of mourning in Chinese culture.

Oh well, I guess I can expect a Qin Ming moment, a g a i n, not that it will really affect the grand scheme of thing very much since after the "good" sects runs off to another state/country most of the characters will hardly appear. unlike Qin Ming, Huayuan actually did die in battle, but that of course is many many years after lol

You’re probably right but the Black armband is a very modern Chinese symbol of mourning - very much so taken from western culture. It seems odd given the context of the series.

You’re right with the black armband having a western origin. Nowadays it’s mostly a royal/military form of respect and of course for famous people, whereas in East Asian culture, white is used instead. It’s a pity that I hardly see the black armbands being worn in ordinary households anymore (at least where I came from).

I don’t know when exactly the Chinese started wearing black as well for mourning, but I’ve seen a very traditional Chinese funeral in Asia where the descendants of the deceased wore both white and black. I was told that the patrilineal descendants get to wear white while the matrilineal and other distant relatives wear black. I’m not even sure if this is a regional custom or it’s actually observed in all Chinese funerals. Any Chinese commenters here care to enlighten us?

I have a feeling they are rushing to finish the final arc of Soul Land, remember I once posted that I saw Tencent Streaming had allocated 250 episodes and then removed it? I think they were aiming for that until the lockdown threw their plans out the window, but I believe it will be around 250 episodes if not 260-270 episodes there when the series ends. Reason being - Soul Land 2, they've already done with the pee-production so no doubt they are already animating it, but of course the lockdown would have affected production

My thoughts exactly! Although Chen Dong is not necessarily better than TJSS because they both suck at writing romance, but I must say, the former is much better at writing compelling side characters. Hell, even a “stone” is written better than XW. LOL!!

Even for YueChan, where her character was unlikable and disputable in the beginning, she ends up having such an incredible growth together with the MC, unlike the bunny where the only growth she has is power boost with zero effort from her. **smh!!

As for Soul Land 2, I don’t think I’ll be watching. I’d rather binge-watch 4 seasons of BTTH in one go and then binge-read the novel. The current state of Soul Land is traumatising enough, I don’t need further nerfing of my fav MC.

Mhm, I enjoyed Soul Land mainly because of the easy reading, in comparison to Perfect World, Tang San had it easier than Shi Hao. Before anyone rages about the loss of his mother and the sacrifice of Xiao Wu, I need to remind you that Shi Hao's parents were never around since they were exiled or imprisoned and Huo Ling'er disappears when she goes to a higher realm then she is kidnapped, Yun Xi ages when the Age of Cultivation vanished from the realms but she choose to stay with Shi Hao even if it meant she will die of old age So Shi Hao has more losses and suffering than Tang San, the novel was definitely darker than Soul Land

I like BTTH lol, I think it is probably my favourite novel, I dont like certain aspects of it, but you can never fully like a novel for what it is, there are always things to nitpick lol

Actually I enjoyed reading DD more than PW. Just like you said, DD is easy reading. I also like how TJSS established his cultivation system right from the start with no ambiguity, unlike in PW where every level is so vague. And just when you think you finally understand the different stages and their sheer complexities, suddenly every Tom, Dick or Harry is called a supreme being and is leagues ahead of the MC.🙄

But the compelling plots and characters development, the fecundity and the profundity of the theme and details, are where PW outshines DD. Just SH’s trajectory of life is already a gazillion times more complex and difficult than TS’s. Then again, sometimes less is more!

Yeah I Shi Hao's method of cultivation doesnt follow the what is perceived as the norm in his world, he always like to do things his way you will see it when he uses a different method to cultivate when he is unable to obtain a seed like everyone would if they want to further their cultivation lol

Problem I can see is that these characters are more or less "forgotten" or consigned to obscurity as Han Li goes to to the

I thought you and me are the biggest spoiler here but nope the biggest spoiler is the producers, dropping xiang zhili as deity transformation last week. as far as I know chaotic sea arc has multiple subarcs, outer sea, inner sea, heavenly void palace realm, and black fog abandoned place and after that han li will revisit southern territory I'm guessing setting cloud sect arc, mu lu tribe war arc, and ancient devil arc xian zhili reappears way way further back at the time han li visitthe talisman sect, which is when he's in his mid to late nascent soul

*sigh* Yeah I just hope the Original Force isnt copying Sparkley Animations and doing changes that affect the flow, the buildup of certain events. Xian Zhili felt like Sea God appearing to beat the crap out of Bibi Dong lol

Chrysanthemum Douluo dies after Tang San comes back from Haotian sect when Tang San and the other Shreks goes and protect the supply lines, soon, very soon, unless the studio decides to keep him alive while killing Qin Ming

And there are a few of us that agrees with you that Hu Liena is a much more likeable character, someone with more personality and character development, Xiao Wu is just.... no change, it is like when she turned into a human form, all her 100,000 years as a spirit beast - experience is gone, maturity gone (when you compare the maturity of Da Ming and Er Ming), so once she became a little girl again her mentality and maturity is frozen. The studio probably tried to make her useful in the latest episode but it is too late.
